webfaCe Desk on your computer

Two ways to use it. If you have a Desk, this is the window onto it — enter the address once and it remembers you, and your Desk keeps working in Toronto when this is closed. If you don't, run one right here on this computer instead, free: choose This Mac and it sets itself up.

The free one needs a key from one of the AI companies — you get it yourself and pay them directly, usually a few dollars a month for one person. Everything else installs itself. Send me the steps.

macOS

Apple silicon and Intel, macOS 12 or newer. One universal app, signed and notarised.

Windows

Windows 10 and 11, 64-bit. Needs Microsoft Edge WebView2 (already on Windows 11).

Linux

Ubuntu 22.04 / 23.x, x86-64. Needs WebKitGTK 4.0 (already on Ubuntu desktop).

First open

Mac opens straight away. Windows and Linux take one extra click the first time.

Mac

Open the disk image and drag webfaCe Desk to Applications. It opens like any other app.

Windows

Unzip and run. If SmartScreen appears, choose More info → Run anyway.

Linux

Unzip and run the webfaCe Desk file. If it won't start, install libwebkit2gtk-4.0.

On your phone

There's nothing to download. Your Desk is a web app that installs from the browser and gets notifications.

  1. Open your Desk address (like yourname.webfacedesk.app) in your phone's browser.
  2. Share → Add to Home Screen.
  3. Open it from the Home Screen and tap Turn on notifications in the sidebar.

Why a web app on the phone?

It's the same Desk, kept in sync with your computer, with the browser view and approvals built in — and it updates itself without an app store.
